Everything I read on the topic - at least what I deem to have merit - speaks of the need to have a purpose. A definition of your own purpose and what drives you. I think what you wrote 10 years ago sums it up nicely Tom. Many people never figure this out, much less even consider it. I think you’re on your way with this one.
Thanks, Kent. This past year I've spent a lot of time thinking about the idea of purpose. Partially because I'm always scrutinizing and trying to (re)define my direction, but mostly because of my dad's death. Subsequently helping my mom filled me with purpose more than anything ever had before. Maybe it resembled the purpose that comes with having kids and being responsible for their daily care and safety. Maybe it was my horns-down response to the accelerated need to get shit done. Whatever the case, having a well-defined purpose allowed for joy and satisfaction in the midst of utter chaos. Purpose matters.
